Well-Being Behavior
Free · about three minutes

A behavior is always producing something.
Let's find out what.

A meltdown, a refusal, a habit nobody can break. Same four reasons, whether it is a four year old, a teenager, an adult you support, or you.

Where should I send it?

Free, and no card. A one-page calm-down sheet to print lands in your inbox, and the newsletter with it. The decoder runs in the app, free, and the link below opens it now. Unsubscribe anytime.

Answer a handful of questions about what actually happens before and after. The decoder scores your answers across all four reasons behavior happens, instead of making you pick one.

In a hurry? Open the decoder right now. It is free either way.

What you get back

  • A score across all four functions, not one guess
  • An "I am not sure" path that tells you exactly what to go and watch for
  • A read-out in plain words, not clinical language
  • It prints, so you can take it to a school meeting, a team meeting, or your own fridge

Nothing here arrives as a blank template. It prints with whatever you put into it.

Written by Camille M. Galanis, a behavior analyst in New York practicing under a graduate permit and LBA supervision. Everything here is educational material, not clinical advice or individualized treatment.

The four answers

There are only four, and that is the good news

Whatever the behavior looks like, it is doing one of these jobs. Sometimes more than one.

Escape

It gets them out of something. A demand, a transition, a noisy room, a task that is too hard today. Adults do it too, and call it answering the email tomorrow.

Attention

It brings somebody over. An annoyed somebody still counts, which is the part that surprises people.

Access

It gets them something. The tablet back, the snack, the toy another child is holding. The second glass, the phone at one in the morning.

Automatic

It feels a particular way, and nobody else has to do anything for it to work. Rocking, chewing, scrolling, biting a nail down to nothing.

Most plans that fall apart were built for the wrong one of these. A reward chart aimed at attention will not touch a behavior that is about escape, and everyone ends up deciding the person is the problem. Including when the person is you.

That is the entire reason this tool exists.
